Renato Crepaldi
Meet the artist: The Marbled Paper Artistry of Renato Crepaldi
Brazilian artist Renato Crepaldi has built on his experience and superb craftsmanship to produce elegant marbled papers that are truly works of art. The marble designs are based on historical patterns and ancient techniques reminiscent of the 18th and 19th century and are combined with modern materials to create papers that are sophisticated and unique in appearance.
Nature is the inspiration for the palette of colors used. Earth and iron oxide based pigments are ever present in his papers along with metallic gold, copper, and bronze. A specialty of Renato is the technique of marbling over dark colored papers, especially black, where a distinctive manipulation of the marbling size and color is required to ensure the vibrancy of the colors in the final product.
Renato's work has been used by well known furniture makers and interior designers and has appeared in exhibits worldwide. His work has been published in several books including a very limited, numbered edition of “International Decorated Paper: Beyond the Sample Book” where 25 professional paper decorators from twelve countries display samples of their work.
